This two-story home – designed by YLAB Arquitectos for a Scandinavian family keen to own a dream vacation getaway to share with their children and friends – is located near Barcelona in a magnificent valley south of the Maresme mountains. The homeowners asked Tobias Laarmann and Yolanda Yuste, founders of YLAB Arquitectos, to renovate the existing structure with a new facade, outdoor areas, layout of the whole indoor spaces and the interior design.
Vast, well-lit open spaces and a welcoming, contemporary mood define the property. It consists of a main house and a guest house that overlook a large pool with breathtaking views of the surrounding pine and holly oak forested hillsides.
Soft hues, ranging from cream to taupe to tobacco, blend with surface textures and opulent details in brass to produce interiors with a relaxed, cosmopolitan vibe, illuminated by natural light that filters through large floor-to-ceiling windows.
The sandstone walls and built-in cabinets in the spacious ground-floor living room form the backdrop for two generously-proportioned Andersen and Andersen Slim sofas and the Prince armchair, along with two Calder coffee tables topped with Nero Marquina marble. In the adjacent dining room, the long Evans table with legs in Pewter lacquer finish and oak top in Moka lacquer, is enlivened by dramatic hanging lamps and the slender brass legs of the chairs that surround it.
Upstairs, in the master bedroom, the custom bed is enhanced by a leather headboard and rests on a soft silk rug that, along with the curved lines of the Prince small armchair and ottoman, counterbalances the austerity of the wood paneling and the wood and brass sideboards.
